   Mark A. Long, Achieve Worker for the Grain Valley School District.   Mark has 21 years experience and has owned the largest Karate school in Independence for 20 years.

As an achieve Worker, he acts as a liaison between school children and school officials for the Jackson County 16th Judicial Family Court.   Mr. Long has taught Karate in the Sycamore Hills, William Southern 21st Century and Orrick School District, and runs an After-School program for Fort Osage Students.   The successes of these programs are described in the Feb. 8, 1995 Kansas City Star article by Lewis Duiguid.   Mr. Long’s Karate career includes coaching and competing on the local and national levels.  He received two gold medals for the United States Team at the Goodwill Martial Arts Games.  Mark also received Grand Champ trophies at the Mile High Karate Classic, Battle of Atlanta and Diamond Nationals.  Mr. Long has won over 1200 trophies and was awarded competitor of the year by the United States Judo Association in which he is a 3rd degree black belt and lifetime member.   Mark is currently one of the organizers and promoters of the Pro-Am sport Karate Circuit, which includes 15 Tournaments a year.  He is currently ranked #1 in the Midwest.  Mark was also chosen to be a participant on Team IDC, which is an Elite National Sport Karate Team.  He is currently ranked #2 Nationally on the NBL Circuit.   Mark is currently studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with his friend and instructor Professor Larry G. Brooks.
