Pancrase

Pancrase is a competition set up in Japan (1993) by Masukatsu Funaki and Minoru Suzuki.

The name Pancrase was taken from the old Olympic games of Pankration, a wrestling game.

The rules were adapted recently to pull them more in line with most Mixed Martial Arts competitions.   Ken Shamrock was the first King of Pancrase, they use the name king instead of champion.   Nathan Marquart was the King of Pancrase 7 times in a row, which was quite a feat, he is a great fighter.   Nathan was coached by Ricardo Murgel and is a member of the Union World Fighting Team, a brother organization to PCMA.  Nathan is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Ricardo Murgel.
